To the Front and Back
The first time I explored HTML was in high school. I don’t remember how I discovered it, but I began learning HTML through tutorials on a free website building and hosting site called Angelfire. Remember them? It became an addiction – I would redesign my website every week because I would be inspired by someone else’s website. Here’s the kicker – I used Microsoft Paint to create graphics!
I have a degree in Psychology with a minor in Information Technology. I majored in Psychology because I loved the subject. After graduation, I decided not to pursue a career in Psychology and that’s when it hit me – I had no idea what I wanted to do! Fast forward to nine years later, I was fortunate to have had worked in the following areas: corporate learning & development, recruiting, front-end web development, user experience (UX), and fitness.
Not all experiences were a success, but the one thing I didn’t stop doing was learning. Learning is one of the greatest tools you can have in your arsenal. I first came to Acquia as a UX intern with the goal of finding my next career. When I came to the realization that my heart was in web development, the Acquia U program came into fruition. When the program was finally announced, I hesitated to apply. I didn’t know enough about Drupal to make an educated decision but then I thought, well, why stop learning now?
In my perspective, Acquia’s investment into the program shows that they’re confident in raising future Drupalists that will not only contribute back to the community but also help us realize our true potential when given the opportunity. It was a no-brainer to apply and now that I’m here, I’m looking forward to the future.
