I struggled in the beginning of my career, because like most of us, I was not sure what I wanted to do. After some college at UMass Amherst and then crazy roadie adventures driving a tour bus around the country, I decided to get a real weekday job that kept me closer to home. I dabbled a bit in transportation dispatching and management but still had a drive to do more challenging things in my life.
As a result, I returned to night school for a degree in Information Technology. This experience gave me the confidence I needed to take my first tech job as a Help Desk technician. I excelled in this position because I found a niche that was both technical but also required an empathy for our client’s needs. My adventures in night school took me into the wild world of web development. When what they provided me was not enough, I explored on my own. During my exploration I found a platform that, to me, stood out above the rest, Drupal. One of the things I liked most about Drupal is the open source community.
I discovered both Acquia Dev Desktop and also Drupal Gardens, which I used for web projects that I was working on at the time. As I was learning more about Acquia, while using some of their products and tools, I learned that they were hiring.. While I was content with my current situation, the drive to learn and do more gravitate me toward this company. I applied for all available position, nothing was going to stop me from joining Acquia. In fact, I did get a job with them, and ended up in Support, where I felt it was a perfect fit for my background, and was going to be able to excel in that role.
Acquia took a chance on me with a new position and I am extremely thankful for them and the opportunities they’ve given me. I am participating in AcquiaU because it will give me the in house training I need to accelerate my career in support, specifically the extreme drupal knowledge that I need to help our customers better!!!
